How to use hunting scents while out in the wilderness

By Robert B.

One thing no hunter should go into the field without is a good hunting scent. There are many different types of hunting scents and strategies to use while out in the woods.

One approach you could take is to try out some hunting scent blockers. These come in forms of gels and soaps you can use that help to lock in your scent and odor. You can also look at scent blocking clothing that attempts to do this as well.

Hunting cover scents are another method to try. There are many scents out there that mimmick the smell of the forrest, rivers, dirt, almost anything you can think of. Hunting scents of this type help you blend you into the surroundings, they try to keep you from standing out.

Another option is to wear an animal scent such as deer, skunk, and coon scent. By far, these are the most popular types of scents. Some popular brands include lee's deer urine hunting scents, team fitzgeralds hunting scents, elwood, etc. Some people even attempt to make homemade hunting scents.

Whatever stragety you prefer, the best disguise is to use a combination of the above hunting scents. The scent blockers and cover scents help you mask your human scent, while the animal scents help to attract the animals. Scents should be just as important as your camo selection because most animals will be able to smell you long before they can see you.
