What types of turkey vulture calls work best?

By Robert B.

Choosing turkey vulture calls can seem like a hard decision to make. It can be confusing at times: what types calls do you use and what times of year to they work best? The right turkey vulture calls can make or break your turkey hunting season, but what kind of calls are on the market?

Slate calls

This turkey vulture call was the first type I learned how to use. They are very simple to use, I was given mine when I was only 10.

Diaphragm calls

These are some of the hardest turkey vulture calls to learn to use. They take plenty of practice, but once you learn how to use them they work splendidly. These are by far the most realistic calls. They also allow you to keep your hands free which makes it easier to hold your gun while calling the turkey.

Push n pull calls

Some hunters prefer these over slate calls when looking for turkey vulture calls. Frankly, you should try everything and decide which style you like the best and can get the most authentic sound with.

Also keep in mind that the type of call is not the only thing you should consider, but the sound it makes. There are many different types of calls, from mating to danger calls. Make sure you select the call that will work best in your situation.
