The easiest and simplest way is to ask you friends and family. Where do they have the most and biggest catches? Be sure also ask them what part of the river or lake they fish on, what time of day, year, etc. All of these factors should be considered.
It might also help to get some local topographic maps to find some unknown locations of fresh water fishing. These are more efficient and showing smaller, hidden ponds and small lakes. Be sure to look for valleys or low elevation areas surrounded by higher land.
If your looking for a certain type of fish, try contacting your local or state natural department of resources. Their websites or local office may offer plenty of information on some good places to fish. In addition, they may have statistics of animal life and pollution levels in rivers and other bodies of water, which should help your decision.
Probably the best locations of fresh water fishing are unknown; fisherman find them and keep them to themselves. But by using some of the ideas I've mentioned and brainstorming your own, you'll soon have your own secret fishing spot!
