So it is definitely not hard to get permission if that is what is stopping you. Another thing is that prairie dog hunting is excellent practice and makes you all around a better shooter. And who does not want to have another excuse to get out of the house and be out in the great outdoors. Having this extended season is awesome and it is really fun to introduce kids or new hunters to the sport and start them off with prairie dog hunting. Mainly because if you fail at killing a prairie dog it is no big deal since there is a bunch of them. And you get to use lighter weaponry opposed to big game hunting.
Lighter rifles like a .22-caliber, .22-.250-caliber or a .223-caliber are the most popular for prairie dogs. Usually you hunt these prairie dogs in the summer months of june, july, and august. So you get to dress a little lighter and you can get away with some of the things you could not get away with on a big game hunt. Have the right scope and the right light clothing can make a lot of difference in the long run on these varmint hunts.
