It has a one in forty eight inch twist. Which is excellent for those side lock percussion muzzleloaders.
CVA keeps this gun around in their arsenal for a very good reason. It is super reliable and can handle the elements and the demands of the everyday hunter. This is the kind of gun that was used back when the west was won.
One of the main reasons why many hunters still choose this gun for the black powder season is because they don't like the idea of selling out and buying those new high tech muzzle loaders that are almost the same as shotguns or rifles. They want to keep the traditional season, well traditional.
This gun is a great smoke pole, it has proved through the decades to be quite the accurate gun. It has stood the test of time for sure. The mountain rifle muzzleloader weighs nine pounds which is not all that bad and the means no recoil and a probably a better shot. You can use round balls or conical bullets and this gun is priced at around a couple hundred bucks.
The CVA mountain rifle will do the job and it even looks sweet with its awesome hardwood finish. Who knows, maybe many years down the road this will be a great collectors gun as well.
