The aquatic invasive plant hydrilla (Hydrilla verticillata) harbors a blue-green algae which is potentially toxic to birds. Birds--namely waterfowl--eat the algae-harboring hydrilla, become poisoned and eventually die from a disease known as avian vacuolar myelinopathy.
