Essential coon hunting supplies that you will need to take into the woods each and every trip

To coon hunt, in addition to good coon hunting supplies, you must have one or more good hunting dogs. There is no other way around it, if you don't have a dog then you won't have much success, regardless of the other hunting equipment you have. Plus, the excitement of waiting and listening for your dog to start barking beause he/she has treed a coon is a definitely a rush.

A nice and dependable .22 caliber rifle is a perfect gun for the job. Always know your gun and your effective range. Especially on coons, try to get a head shot or a good vital hit. Those critters are tough. Practically any type of bullet will work, I recommend a solid tip bullets as your choice of ammunition.

Flashlights, you are in the dark and there are many good types of flashlights built almost for the coon hunter in mind. Many online hunting stores should do the trick. Always have spare batteries. You never know how long you will be out there.

Skinning knife, most coon hunters don’t want to carry around all that excess weight when all you want is the hide. Always carry a good sharp knife and a good sharpening stone with your other coon hunting supplies. Their hides are tough and you may find your knife dull especially after working around the face.

One of the greatest things about equipment to hunt coons is that nothing is really that expensive and the supplies usually last for awhile, some other small items to include on your trip to the woods or something to help you prepare for your next trip would be a trash bag to put your skins in, and coon hunting books and magazines.

Those coon hunting supplies should pretty much get you ready to start pursuing coons and always some helpful tips would be to find a local coon hunting club and usually there’s someone who would be willing to take you out one time and show you how it’s done.

Try to find some farmland to hunt. Coons enjoy living near water and nearby corn fields. Most farmers would be more than happy to let you have access to their land and take a few coons off their land. It’s a mutual benefit and who knows, maybe he’ll let you come back for some hunting on other game. After all, he’s trying to keep his crops from being eaten by animals.
